How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the parts match the listing: loose iron or steel rollers used on vehicle bodies, then enter NMFC 19340 and Class 70 on the BOL with the exact piece count.
- Unitize loose rollers on a skid using V-blocks, wedges, or cribbing to prevent movement, then band with steel or heavy poly strap; add edge protectors to stop strap bite.
- Protect surfaces with slip-sheet, oil paper, or caps to limit metal-on-metal abrasion and rust transfer; avoid loading next to painted or trim components.
- Mark pallets “Loose Metal Rollers—Do Not Stack” if uncrated, and provide forklift access on two sides to reduce pinch and roll hazards during handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 rating eliminates density calculations, speeding quotes and tendering for LTL moves.
- Accurate NMFC 19340 use reduces reclass/rebill risk, protecting margins and minimizing audit friction.
- Clear, non-hazardous status streamlines carrier routing and cuts accessorial delays tied to hazmat checks.
- Proper securing of loose rollers lowers damage claims on heavy cylindrical parts, improving total landed cost.
