How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack card-mounted, 1-qt plastic waterers in sturdy master boxes with dividers or pads so dispensers don’t snag or crush.
- Note on the BOL: “Waterers, plastic bottle with dispenser, boxed — NMFC 196520, Class 175” to prevent reclass delays.
- Keep the dispenser ends away from box walls and mark “This Side Up” to reduce stress on threaded caps during LTL handling.
- For retail or farm deliveries, bundle inner cartons (e.g., 12 or 24 units) on a stable pallet with no overhang and corner protection.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing with a fixed Class 175—no density calculation needed, speeding quotes and rate comparisons.
- Lower reclass and accessorial risk when “boxes” packaging is declared and NMFC 196520 is shown on documents.
- Card-mounted, boxed presentation reduces scuffs and returns, improving sell-through for pet and feed retailers.
- Streamlined replenishment: uniform small-bottle format stacks efficiently, cutting handling time and damage claims.
