How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- State the commodity on the BOL as “Platforms, NOI, KD flat or in panels — NMFC 199250, Class 65” and mark Non-Hazardous.
- Unitize KD panels tightly: band with 2–3 straps and edge protectors, place on a skid or runners for fork access, and cap with fiberboard or plywood.
- Keep bundles flat and square for stacking; add corner guards and “Do Not Stand On Edge” labels to prevent bowing and scuffing in transit.
- Review carrier overlength policies for long panels; arrange special handling if needed and note it on the pickup to avoid delays or surcharges.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable costs with a fixed Class 65 rating—no density calculations and fewer reclass disputes.
- KD flat or panelized packing minimizes cube and improves stackability, lowering LTL linehaul and handling fees.
- Non-hazardous woodenware widens carrier options and speeds scheduling, helping you hit tight construction timelines.
- Accurate BOL wording and proper bundling reduce OS&D, claim risk, and reship expenses for repeatable savings.
