How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack finished wooden bases in sturdy boxes with foam wraps or paper interleaves to prevent scuffs on stained or lacquered surfaces.
- Use crates for bulk orders or oversized pedestal bases; brace with internal blocking so pieces can’t slide or crush during LTL handling.
- Label cartons This Side Up when bases have decorative profiling to avoid edge chipping, and add corner protectors for stacked sets.
- Palletize tight: fill voids, strap and stretch-wrap; keep pallet footprints within 48x40 inches for better stackability and lower handling risk.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 simplifies quoting—no density calculations—reducing reclass charges and speeding approvals for awards and decor shipments.
- Proper boxing or crating cuts finish damage and returns, protecting margins for trophy shops, woodturners, and event suppliers.
- Predictable rating improves freight budgeting across seasonal spikes for tournaments, corporate awards, and museum gift shop replenishment.
- Optimized packaging and pallet build improve cube utilization, lowering per-unit freight costs on multi-carton runs.
