How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Declare the item as “Bleach, laundry, dry, NOI” with NMFC 24080 and Class 55 on the BOL; note packaging as boxes, packages, or Package 2341 if applicable.
- Use moisture-resistant packaging: poly-lined cartons, sealed inner bags, or tight-lidded drums permitted under Package 2341. Keep closures taped and liners tied to control dust.
- Palletize snugly with stretch wrap and corner boards; mark Keep Dry. Stow away from liquids and acids to prevent reaction if a spill occurs.
- Plan practical packouts for LTL handling. Example: 25-lb boxes, 40 per 48x40 pallet (≈1,000 lb), labeled non-hazardous, shipping at fixed Class 55.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 55 yields competitive LTL rates, avoiding density-based reclasses and unpredictable charges.
- Non-hazardous status eliminates hazmat fees and eases carrier acceptance, improving tender success and transit options.
- Clear NOI description and Package 2341-compliant packaging reduce inspections, reweigh/reclass disputes, and damage claims.
- Standard box or drum formats streamline janitorial and laundry supply distribution, enabling consolidated shipments and repeatable costing.
