How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 24420, Class 100 on the BOL and choose packaging by size: sturdy boxes for small framed boards, wood crates for oversized lobby directories.
- Protect frames with corner guards, foam wrap, and rigid edge protectors; palletize, keep vertical orientation, and mark Do Not Stack and This Side Up.
- If glass or acrylic glazing is installed, float-pack inside a crate using shock-absorbing spacers and avoid banding across the display face.
- For jobsite or property management deliveries, schedule appointments and request liftgate or inside delivery as needed; bag mounting hardware separately and label clearly.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 eliminates density disputes, streamlining quotes and reducing the risk of reclassification fees.
- Clear boxing or crating guidance minimizes transit damage to frames and glazing, lowering OS&D claims and replacement costs.
- Predictable class enables accurate budgeting for signage rollouts across offices, campuses, and healthcare facilities.
- Non-hazardous status keeps carrier options broad and transit times competitive, improving project timelines.
