How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack each board or slate in a rigid corrugated box with face protection; secure the stylus in a sleeve or taped pouch so it doesn’t rub or puncture the surface.
- When shipping classroom or retail multiples, use inner cartons or dividers, then master-box and stretch-wrap to a pallet; add flat tie-sheets to prevent scuffing.
- Print the BOL with “NMFC 24480, Class 77.5, Non-Hazardous” and include piece count and true weight; no density calculation is required for rating.
- Stack cartons flat and avoid point pressure on erasable faces; mark Do Not Crush/Top Load Lightly to guard LCD or pressure-sensitive surfaces.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 77.5 yields predictable LTL rates and reduces reclass disputes, improving quoting accuracy.
- Non-hazardous status eliminates hazmat fees and carrier restrictions, lowering total landed cost.
- Boxed-only packaging streamlines dock handling, cutting claim risk for scuffs, bends, and surface damage.
- Consistent classification supports seasonal school and office supply rollouts with reliable budgeting and consolidation.
