How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Book at Class 150 under NMFC 24640 and select crates on the BOL; describe as “deflated pneumatic bumper boat with molded plastic seat and outboard motor.”
- Prep the unit for non-haz shipping: drain fuel, cap lines, disconnect battery, bag loose hardware, and pad the molded plastic seat to prevent scuffs.
- Crate with internal tie-down points; strap the hull and motor separately inside the same crate and block the lower unit so it cannot swing or rub the walls.
- Keep crate height low by positioning the motor alongside the seat-body; mark This Side Up and add corner protectors or cones if the crate is non-stackable.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 150 simplifies quoting and minimizes surprise reclass fees.
- Crated, deflated configuration reduces cube and damage risk, lowering claims and packaging-related accessorials.
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat surcharges and expands carrier options.
- Clear NMFC alignment speeds dock acceptance and streamlines insurance underwriting for amusement operators.
