How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Prep the unit: drain fuel to safe levels, purge lines, disconnect and cap the battery, remove accessories, and pad the handlebars and hull edges.
- Use Package 2275 or a rigid wood/steel crate with blocking at bow and stern. Strap over structural points and protect the jet pump intake from fork tines.
- Mark lift points, center of gravity, and no-fork zones. Provide forklift clearance runners so loaders avoid contact with the ride plate and hull.
- On the BOL, write Personal Watercraft, jet pump, crated, NMFC 25095, Class 175 and include full crate dimensions and weight to prevent OS/OW fees.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 175 means no density calculation, enabling instant LTL quotes and fewer reclass disputes.
- Crating and Package 2275 compliance reduce transit damage and claim costs on high-value watercraft.
- Non-hazardous classification streamlines booking and avoids hazmat surcharges and paperwork delays.
- Clear labeling and standardized packaging speed cross-dock handling, improving cycle time and pickup reliability during peak marine season.
