How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use approved packaging only: wood crate or triplewall fiberboard container securely fastened to lift truck skids/pallets per Item 170. Band or bolt through runners and mark center of gravity.
- Confirm each unit exceeds 500 lb and compute density with palletized dimensions. Example: 52 × 36 × 48 in at 560 lb = 52.0 cu ft; density ≈ 10.8 pcf (560 ÷ 52). Class is assigned by density under the note to Item 25971.
- Prepare equipment: drain oil from fryers, secure griddle plates, remove racks/baskets and bag inside the crate, cap gas/electric connections, and add shock/tilt indicators for visibility.
- Book the right handling: request forklift access at both ends, note limited access or appointments, and avoid pallet overhang to prevent damage and accessorial fees.
