How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Choose crates for one-piece shell modules; brace the chair, immobilize footrests/ottomans, and poly-bag upholstery to block dust and moisture.
- Quote using Class 250 and specify boxed or crated; add liftgate and delivery appointment for clinics or labs without docks.
- If speakers are built in, disconnect loose leads, cap terminals, and cushion control panels with closed-cell foam to protect electronics.
- Mark center of gravity, This Side Up, and Do Not Stack; band the crate to a skid with at least two straps to prevent tip-over.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 250 eliminates density disputes and costly reclass fees, accelerating approvals.
- Non-hazardous designation streamlines paperwork and avoids hazmat surcharges for predictable bills.
- Purposeful crating reduces damage to molded shells and electronics, protecting clinic uptime and patient schedules.
- Clear packaging notes and accessorial planning lead to cleaner invoices and stronger LTL rate negotiations.
