How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Decide assembled vs knocked-down. KD kits fit double-wall cartons and stack on pallets; assembled booths need custom crates or A-frames with blocking.
- Bag small hardware per booth, label by precinct or site, and place a visible packing list on each carton to speed check-in at municipal warehouses.
- Palletize with corner protectors, straps, and stretch wrap; add top sheets to prevent scuffs on plastic or aluminum panels and mark Do Not Stack where needed.
- Plan secure delivery: book appointments, request liftgate or inside delivery if no dock, and list serial numbers on the BOL to maintain chain of custody.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- KD packaging reduces cube and avoids overlength charges, cutting LTL costs during election-season surges.
- Purpose-built crating for assembled booths lowers damage claims on privacy panels and keeps deployments on schedule.
- Non-hazardous status expands carrier options and simplifies paperwork, improving transit speed and flexibility.
- Consolidating precinct orders on master pallets reduces PROs, accelerates receiving, and helps prevent redelivery and appointment fees.
