Notes

Note 27901: NOTE-Also applies on accompanying accessorial equipment such as motors, blowers or fans, lighting fixtures, filters or other articles necessary for assembly or use.

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Pack only in boxes or sturdy crates as specified. Use long skids for forklift entry, edge guards on sheet panels, and block/bracings so panel bundles and fan housings cannot shift.
  2. Separate sensitive components. Bag filters, wrap motors and lights, and place controls in a dedicated accessories box inside the crate to prevent moisture and vibration damage.
  3. Record final dimensions and weights after banding and blocking. Example set: two panel crates (96x48x10) plus one fan/electrical crate (36x36x24) with each piece labeled “This Side Up.”
  4. Reference NMFC 27900 and Note item 27901 on the BOL description. Add handling cues like Do Not Stack cones and list needed accessorials (liftgate, limited access) to avoid delays.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Lower reclass risk by citing the note reference and using compliant box/crate packaging, reducing inspection disputes and surprise charges.
  • Crating modular booth sections cuts claim exposure on panels and fans, protecting delivery timelines and install schedules at the jobsite.
  • Optimized LTL pricing from uniform, right-sized crates that cube efficiently and minimize oversize fees or reweighs.
  • Non-hazardous classification for the booth itself streamlines paperwork and avoids hazmat surcharges when shipping without coatings or solvents.
