How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Palletize or crate frames with rigid wood spreaders across jambs to keep the opening square; add edge and corner guards, then band with 2-inch strap.
- Bundle wood casings by profile and length with cardboard interleaves to prevent scuffing; stretch wrap bundles and label kit contents for quick jobsite sorting.
- Measure the full footprint after strapping, including protruding anchors or hinge preps; note orientation on labels and mark Do Not Stack if frames could rack.
- Photograph packaging before pickup and list NMFC 33780 on BOL with piece count; this speeds claims handling and prevents reclass discussions.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Lower damage rates by protecting jambs and corners, reducing costly rework and schedule slip on door installs.
- Clear NMFC identification reduces reclass and dispute fees, creating more predictable LTL rates and faster quoting.
- Bundled, skid-packed frames load faster and cut handling time, improving dock throughput and minimizing accessorials.
- Non-hazardous commodity broadens carrier options and simplifies routing, supporting faster transit and fewer service exceptions.
