NMFC Description Class
34430.00 Doors, swinging, impact opening, self-closing, metal and plastic or rubber, in boxes or crates 70

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Choose packaging by build: crate heavier metal doors for rigidity, box lighter plastic/rubber panels. Pad windows, kick plates, and edges to prevent bowing or skin dents.
  2. If shipping door pairs, band them with foam spacers along hinge and latch edges, then overwrap. Bag and secure self-closing hardware inside the crate or box.
  3. Palletize long crates to keep forks clear of the door face. Mark This Side Up and Do Not Stack for spring-loaded models, and print NMFC 34430, Class 70 on the BOL.
  4. For cold storage or restaurant traffic doors, confirm size and dead weight to select crate thickness and blocking. Use nylon banding with edge guards—avoid bare steel straps on finished surfaces.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Fixed Class 70 simplifies quoting and removes density calculations, cutting reclass fees and preventing surprise adjustments.
  • Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and speeds tendering, improving pickup windows for construction and facility projects.
  • Boxes or crates permitted—right-size your packaging spend while meeting NMFC compliance and protecting sensitive door faces and hardware.
  • Cleaner handling profile for building materials reduces OS&D claims and cycle time, keeping project schedules on track and freight budgets predictable.
