How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Quote at Class 85 and list each KD component by count (e.g., 6 wall panels, 1 roof section, 2 door leaves) to prevent reclass and OS&D disputes.
- Crate long panels on full-length skids with edge guards and foam; mark lift points and center of gravity to avoid flexing and fork punctures.
- Stage small hardware—rollers, trims, fasteners—in labeled totes banded inside the master crate; include a parts map tied to the car number.
- Request non-stack and inside pickup or jobsite delivery when needed, and share max panel lengths so carriers plan trailers without nose stacking.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 85 eliminates density surprises, speeding quotes and reducing reweigh/reclass fees on mixed metal and glass cab shipments.
- Robust KD packaging cuts concealed damage to finished interiors, lowering claims and keeping installation crews on schedule.
- Consolidated skids mean fewer handling touches, trimming accessorials like excessive labor or special sorting at cross-docks.
- Clear car-number labeling accelerates onsite staging and reduces crane or hoist downtime during installation windows.
