How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Reference NMFC 34830 on the BOL for packaged pavement or construction joints and seals, including expansion joints, waterstops, and preformed fillers. Note material type (neoprene, EPDM, PVC, foam) for clarity.
- Package to prevent deformation: strap straight lengths to a pallet with corner boards, coil flexible profiles on 12–16 in cores, and wrap to shield edges. Use soft straps or edge protectors so elastomers are not indented.
- Provide true weights and dimensions even though a fixed class is not set. Keep bundles within pallet footprint to avoid cubic minimums, and plan long-freight services for 10–12 ft lengths when applicable.
- Prepare for jobsite realities: add liftgate or appointment notes if needed, keep goods out of prolonged heat or UV to protect rubber profiles, and clearly mark Do Not Stack when compression could damage the seal profile.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
