Notes
Note 35327: NOTE-Applies on sealing material in extruded strip form, used to convert single pane windows to double pane (insulated) windows, shipped in a frozen state to prevent catalytic action.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack extruded seals flat or coiled inside sturdy boxes with corrugated dividers so wire-core sections do not kink; add poly liners to prevent sticking as product thaws.
- Maintain the “frozen” rigidity for warm routes with gel packs or insulated liners when needed; keep cartons off heat sources on docks and trailers.
- Choose cartons that match the cut length or coil diameter to avoid bending; for example, 48-inch sticks ride well in double-wall cartons with corner foam rails.
- Print the BOL exactly: “NMFC 35325 – Seals, extruded rubber/plastic with wire core, frozen, in boxes – Class 100” to prevent reclass and speed cross-dock handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 gives predictable LTL pricing without density calculations, simplifying rating and avoiding surprise adjustments.
- Boxed packaging and frozen rigidity lower deformation risk, cutting OS&D claims and replacement costs for glazing contractors and window OEMs.
- Clear NMFC language on paperwork reduces inspection delays and keeps freight moving through busy building-materials terminals.
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat fees and special handling, enabling wider carrier options and better transit times.
