How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Choose packaging by component length: long rail sections in sturdy crates with blocking, smaller KD panel kits in reinforced boxes on a pallet.
- Pad sharp metal edges with foam and edge protectors, bag all fasteners, and tape hardware packs inside the primary carton to prevent loss.
- Label each piece clearly (e.g., Left/Right panels, top/bottom channel) and keep KD sets together to avoid mismatched assemblies at install.
- Note on the BOL: “NMFC 35710, Class 70, non-hazardous,” include piece count and packaging type (e.g., 2 crates, 1 box), and request liftgate or appointment if the jobsite lacks a dock.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing from a fixed Class 70—no density calculations, fewer re-bills, and faster quoting.
- Proper boxing/crating reduces bend and scratch claims on precision balustrade parts, lowering total landed cost.
- Consolidated KD kits arrive ready for install, helping contractors and OEM service teams cut site time and avoid schedule slips.
- Non-hazardous, pre-classed freight simplifies carrier selection and minimizes reclassification or inspection delays.
