How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the item is a ventilator (not a chimney cap or cowl) to align with NMFC 37350 and avoid reclass fees.
- Pack metal housings in rigid boxes or wood crates; brace collars and dampers, pad louvers, and use foam to stop flexing and denting.
- Palletize cartons or crates, keep arrows upright, and mark Do Not Clamp to protect thin-gauge hoods and flanges from clamp-truck damage.
- Seal against moisture with a poly bag or VCI wrap around bearings and hardware; add corner boards and edge protectors for jobsite handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 200 rating simplifies quoting—no density math—speeding LTL rate shopping and tendering.
- Clear scope (ventilators only, not caps/cowls) helps prevent inspection disputes, reclass charges, and surprise rebills.
- Robust box-or-crate options cut damage risk on delicate louvers and dampers, reducing claims and jobsite delays.
- Non-hazardous status expands carrier choices and cuts compliance overhead, improving transit flexibility and cost control.
