NMFC 40420 - Steel Ornament Caps in Boxes | Class 85

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. List NMFC 40420, Class 85 on the BOL and describe as “Caps, Christmas tree ornament, steel, in boxes” to prevent reclass or inspection delays.
2. Bag loose caps and any hooks/hangers in sealed polybags, then place in chipboard partitions inside a sturdy corrugated box (32 ECT or stronger) to avoid loss and metal-on-metal scuffing.
3. Palletize cartons tight with no overhang on a 48x40 pallet; add corner boards, stretch wrap, and two straps to keep small-part boxes from shifting during LTL handling.
4. Keep commodities pure per carton; do not mix with other holiday items. Example: 2 inner cartons x 2,500 caps each per master carton, labeled with piece count and weight.
