How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Palletize boxed or baled film sheets with corner boards and crosswise strapping; shrink-wrap tightly to stop slick stacks from sliding in transit.
- Control moisture: line cartons with poly, add desiccant if humid, and request a dry van. Cellulose acetate can warp when exposed to moisture.
- Label clearly: “Reclaimed Washed Film — NMFC 41800, Class 70.” Keep separate from PET films or unwashed silver-bearing film to avoid reclass or recycler rejection.
- Provide simple docs: pallet counts and weights, non-hazardous statement, and destination recycler info. No density entry needed since rating is fixed at Class 70.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable LTL pricing with fixed Class 70, reducing reweigh/reclass fees and simplifying quotes.
- Non-hazardous status speeds dock handling and avoids hazmat surcharges or special paperwork.
- Cleaner, uniform pallets cut OS&D risk and help maintain salvage value for recycling programs.
- Clear NMFC mapping (41800) streamlines TMS setup and accelerates tender-to-pickup cycle times.
