How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm NMFC 42050 at Class 65 on the BOL and include hazmat data from the SDS, including the proper shipping name and UN/NA number.
- Place sealed metal cans inside sturdy corrugated boxes with dividers and absorbent pads; fill voids so cans cannot shift or rattle.
- Palletize upright with no overhang, band and wrap tightly, and add orientation arrows; keep away from ignition sources or incompatible chemicals.
- Evaluate Limited Quantity rules for small inner cans to reduce handling steps and fees, and verify carrier acceptance before booking.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
