How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack tips in inner poly sleeves or small cartons, then master-pack in rigid 32–44 ECT boxes to prevent scuffing and crush damage.
- Reference NMFC 47730 and “Cigar Tips, plastic, disposable” on the BOL; include “See Note, item 47732” in remarks when your documentation supports it.
- Palletize tight with no overhang; add corner boards, two cross-bands, and stretch wrap for multi-carton LTL moves.
- Avoid prolonged heat exposure; choose routes and services that limit hot trailer dwell to prevent warping of thin plastic tips.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 85 eliminates density calculations, speeding quotes and tendering.
- Non-hazardous and boxed packaging lowers accessorial risk and compliance costs.
- Clear NMFC wording helps prevent reclass or inspection disputes and surprise charges.
- Durable, compact accessories ship reliably in bulk cartons, reducing OS&D claims versus loose or mixed packs.
