How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm it’s a floor-standing clock (grandfather/longcase) per Note, item 48731; wall or mantel styles use different items.
- Pack in heavy boxes or NMFC Packages 107F or 108F. Secure pendulum and weights, pad glass panels, and add edge/corner guards.
- Keep the boxed clock upright on a pallet. Strap and wrap, block the base to stop tipping, and mark This Side Up and Do Not Stack.
- List NMFC 48730, Class 200 on the BOL. Add needed accessorials like residential delivery, liftgate, or inside service.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 200 removes density calculations, speeding quotes and reducing reclass charges on tall, delicate clocks.
- Packaging to 107F/108F standards lowers damage risk to glass and movements, cutting claim costs and downtime.
- Accurate NMFC usage improves carrier acceptance and keeps options open during peak retail or auction seasons.
- Predictable classification helps compare LTL rates and budget confidently versus white‑glove alternatives.
