Notes
Note 50313: NOTE-Applies only on algaecidal, bactericidal, corrosion-inhibiting, fungicidal or particle-dispersing compounds for baths, pools, spas or hot tubs. One plastic dispenser may be included in each container of material. The weight of the dispenser must not exceed five percent of the gross weight of the container.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the product is non-hazardous per its SDS and matches NMFC 50312. If a formula requires DOT hazmat labels, do not use this item—reference related notes for items 50313 or 50314.
- Use sturdy corrugated boxes with sealed inner liners or poly bags to prevent leaks or dusting. Add void fill and reinforce seams with water-resistant tape.
- Record accurate scales weight for each carton and list NMFC 50312, Class 65 on the BOL. Example description: “Water Treatment Compounds, non-hazardous, in boxes.”
- Unitize cartons on clean pallets, shrink-wrap tightly, and keep away from incompatible goods (e.g., strong oxidizers or acids) to minimize risk if a package is compromised.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable costs with fixed Class 65—reduces reclass disputes and surprise invoices.
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat surcharges and opens access to more LTL carriers.
- Boxed packaging improves handling efficiency and lowers OS&D claims and repack fees.
- Clear item mapping (single classification) speeds quoting, tendering, and dock processing.
