NMFC 51160 - Hydrants or Fireplug Sections | Class 60

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. State on the BOL: “Hydrants (Fireplugs) or Sections, NMFC 51160, Class 60, non-haz.” List components by type (barrels, bodies, caps) to prevent reclass.
2. Palletize or crate heavy cast/ductile iron parts; cap threaded ports and cover flange faces; band tightly with blocking and add edge guards to avoid chipping.
3. Use forklifts or spreader slings at lifting points; keep the center of gravity low and avoid stacking valve bodies on stems; e.g., three barrels banded on a 48x40 pallet.
4. Wrap painted surfaces to prevent scuffs and add moisture barriers if staging outdoors before pickup to protect coatings and threads.
