How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Rate at Class 100 regardless of density and list net and gross weight per box, drum, or pail on the BOL for clean, weight-based pricing.
- Seal food-grade pails/drums for liquid or paste formulas; for dry blends in boxes, use a poly liner and tape seams to block moisture and odors.
- Palletize on clean, food-only pallets; keep pails/drums upright, add corner boards and a top sheet, then stretch wrap to prevent shifting.
- Label as “Foodstuffs – Egg Substitute Compounds, NOI,” include lot and best-by details, and keep away from perfumed or corrosive freight.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 delivers predictable rating and reduces costly reclass disputes.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and avoids hazmat surcharges.
- Ability to ship in boxes, drums, or pails lets you right-size cube and weight for lower LTL spend.
- Weight-based classification speeds quoting and onboarding for faster order-to-ship cycles.
