How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Declare NMFC 55915, Class 100 on the BOL and specify “paper or paper-backed foil door covering, rolled on cores, boxed” to mirror the tariff language.
- Use double-wall cartons with end-cap blocking around the cores; add “This Side Up” and keep rolls vertical to prevent flat-spotting in LTL transit.
- Poly-wrap each roll to protect from moisture and dust, then fill voids so cores cannot shift; example: two 36 in x 100 ft rolls separated with corrugated pads.
- If palletizing, choose a 48 x 40 pallet, strap cartons, use corner boards, and add a top sheet to prevent scuffing of printed finishes during cross-docks.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 rating delivers predictable pricing and reduces reclass or density disputes.
- Non-hazardous material widens carrier options and speeds terminal handling for faster throughput.
- Core reinforcement and boxed presentation cut damage to decorative surfaces, lowering claims and replacement costs.
- Precise NMFC description on paperwork accelerates billing audits and minimizes chargeback friction for millwork and OEM shipments.
