How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 56230 and “artificial snow/flocking compound, dry, boxed” on the BOL to lock in the fixed Class 100.
- Seal each carton to prevent fine dust escape; use a poly bag liner and reinforced tape. Cushion any vacuum sprayer attachment so it can’t puncture the box.
- Palletize with slip sheets and full stretch wrap. Mark Keep Dry and This Side Up to avoid moisture exposure and clumping during transit.
- You don’t need density for classing, but include accurate dims and weight for quotes and capacity. Example: 12 x 12 x 12 in, 22 lb, 6 ctns on 1 pallet.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing with fixed Class 100—fewer reclass charges and smoother audits.
- Non-hazardous status expands carrier options and eliminates hazmat paperwork and surcharges.
- Boxed dry goods reduce spill risk and claim exposure, cutting damage costs and dock delays.
- One NMFC for colored or uncolored product (with optional sprayer) simplifies seasonal retail and event shipping programs.
