How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. List NMFC 56230 and “artificial snow/flocking compound, dry, boxed” on the BOL to lock in the fixed Class 100.
  2. Seal each carton to prevent fine dust escape; use a poly bag liner and reinforced tape. Cushion any vacuum sprayer attachment so it can’t puncture the box.
  3. Palletize with slip sheets and full stretch wrap. Mark Keep Dry and This Side Up to avoid moisture exposure and clumping during transit.
  4. You don’t need density for classing, but include accurate dims and weight for quotes and capacity. Example: 12 x 12 x 12 in, 22 lb, 6 ctns on 1 pallet.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Predictable pricing with fixed Class 100—fewer reclass charges and smoother audits.
  • Non-hazardous status expands carrier options and eliminates hazmat paperwork and surcharges.
  • Boxed dry goods reduce spill risk and claim exposure, cutting damage costs and dock delays.
  • One NMFC for colored or uncolored product (with optional sprayer) simplifies seasonal retail and event shipping programs.
