How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Quote as NMFC 57125, Class 150, and name the item on the BOL as “boxed steel book/AV depository—chute or free‑standing” for clear carrier handling.
  2. Protect chutes, doors, and return slots with foam wrap and edge guards; bag and tape loose hardware or keys inside the box to prevent loss.
  3. If the boxed unit rides on a pallet, strap and stretch‑wrap securely, keep upright, and mark “Do Not Clamp” to avoid crushing the steel panels.
  4. Verify site needs like liftgate or inside delivery—these boxed steel units can be bulky. Example: campus book drop replacements shipped to multiple branches.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Correct Class 150 rating reduces reclass fees and dispute time, keeping LTL costs predictable for library or school rollouts.
  • Single NMFC covers chute and free‑standing designs, simplifying rate shopping across models and vendors.
  • Boxed packaging improves stackability and cube efficiency, lowering per‑unit transportation cost on multi‑stop projects.
  • Non‑hazmat status streamlines tendering and documentation, accelerating pickup windows and transit through carrier hubs.
