How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use NMFC 57145 and Class 125 on the BOL; this item is rated by description, not by density. Choose boxes as the packaging to match the listing.
- Cushion the rigid writing surface with edge protectors and foam sheet wrap to prevent corner dents or punctures inside each carton.
- Bag the fabric-covered base before boxing to keep fibers clean and to limit compression marks; place the base facing up to avoid flattening.
- If palletizing boxed units, keep cartons aligned, limit top-load weight, and use corner boards and stretch wrap to curb bulging from the flexible base.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 125 removes density calculations, speeding quotes and cutting reclass disputes.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and avoids hazmat surcharges.
- Box-friendly packing fits common 3PL and retail compliance, reducing prep time and labor.
- Proper edge and base protection lowers OS&D claims, stabilizing costs and improving delivery KPIs.
