How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Identify the freight as a metal trash diverter for farm pond or reservoir overflow pipe and list NMFC 57445, Class 250 on the BOL.
- Bundle frames/screens with two straps and edge guards, cap any pipe ends, and wrap to prevent snagging and protect galvanized or painted finishes.
- Place the diverter on a pallet or pipe rack so forks can lift cleanly; shield the screen face with plywood or crate panels to prevent bending.
- Measure the full footprint including flanges and brackets; note oversize or site constraints (e.g., rural pond access) to plan accessorials.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Correct Class 250 coding avoids reclass/rebill fees and shipment delays.
- Rigid, protective packing reduces screen deformation and claim risk, saving replacement costs.
- Bundling multiple diverters onto one skid lowers per-piece handling and speeds loading.
- Fixed, non-density class simplifies quoting and budgeting across lanes and carriers.
