How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use Class 70 for all quotes; density is not required. When booking here, choose Boxes as the packaging and note if contents are ground or whole.
- Protect against sifting and moisture: line corrugated boxes with a heavy poly bag (e.g., 4‑mil), seal the liner, and tape all seams for powdered product.
- Add handling notes like “Do not co-load with edible goods” to prevent food contamination risks commonly flagged with toxic botanicals.
- Print on the BOL: “Nux vomica beans (ground/whole), NMFC 58580, Class 70, non-hazardous,” and include piece count, gross weight, and inner-bag details.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 simplifies rating and stabilizes LTL costs, cutting reclass and inspection-related fees.
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat surcharges and opens access to broader carrier capacity and lanes.
- Packaging in boxes aligns with standard LTL handling, reducing damage claims and accessorials tied to spills or sifting.
- Clear, NMFC-accurate descriptions speed terminal processing and improve delivery reliability for labs and botanical processors.
