How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack leak-tight bottles inside sturdy cartons; use dividers for glass and line cases with poly bags to contain any seepage and preserve fragrance integrity.
- Palletize upright with corner boards and stretch wrap; avoid overhang and add “This Side Up” and “Liquids” labels to minimize handling damage.
- Document clearly: “Rose Water, personal care liquid, non-hazardous,” and note bottle material (glass or PET), counts per case, and net/gross weights for accurate LTL quotes.
- Confirm classification before tendering since Class is N/A here; provide a spec sheet or SDS (non-hazmat) to carriers or NMFTA to secure the correct item/exception.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and avoids hazmat surcharges, reducing overall shipping costs.
- Case-packed, upright pallets lower breakage risk, cutting claims and protecting carrier discounts tied to damage ratios.
- Accurate product descriptions and labeling reduce reclass fees, inspection delays, and unexpected rebills.
- Choosing PET over glass where possible reduces weight and damage exposure, improving cube utilization and freight rates.
