Notes

Note 61682: NOTE-Shipper must certify on shipping orders and bills of lading at time of shipment that the actual value of the property does not exceed $1.40 each nor $4.00 per pound. If the shipper fails to so certify the actual value, sub 2 of the item will apply.

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Use inner cartons or poly bags for each plug, receptacle, or cartridge fuse cap; cap blades and terminals and add partitions so faceplates and housings don’t scuff.
  2. Ship as boxed freight only. Load master cartons on sturdy pallets, apply stretch wrap and corner boards, and avoid loose parts or open totes that risk reclass.
  3. Mark each carton with SKU/UL reference and piece count; include a packing list on the outside and photograph the palletized load before tendering.
  4. Separate heavy brass or metal bodies from lighter thermoplastic pieces within cartons; place denser items at the bottom to prevent crushing.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Accurate “boxed NOI” alignment minimizes reclass fees and surprise adjustments across plugs, receptacles, rosettes, and fuse caps.
  • Cube-efficient cartons stack cleanly, improving trailer utilization and often lowering LTL costs relative to irregular packs.
  • Non-hazardous status widens carrier choices and simplifies delivery to jobsites, distributors, and retail DCs.
  • Better protection prevents bent blades and cracked housings, cutting claims, returns, and downstream labor costs.
