How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack KD kits with titanium/MMO anodes foam-wrapped and separated from PVC manifolds; use non-metallic edge guards to prevent coating scuffs.
- Palletize small cartons within the pallet footprint and label “KD” plus carton count (e.g., 1 of 3) to keep the system parts together in transit.
- List NMFC 61780 and Class 70 on the BOL; no density break needed, which helps avoid reclass and surprise re-rate notices.
- Keep electronics or control leads bagged and moisture-protected; ship any power modules in a separate inner carton for shock isolation.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable costs: fixed Class 70 rating streamlines quoting and caps the risk of density-based upcharges.
- No hazmat handling: non-hazardous status minimizes paperwork, surcharges, and carrier restrictions.
- KD packaging reduces cube and damage risk, helping lower LTL rates while protecting high-value anodes and housings.
- Cleaner claims record: correct NMFC and consolidated KD sets cut misroutes, preventing OS&D and reship expenses.
