NMFC 63140 - Stationary or Wheeled Substations | Class 85

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. Verify it’s a substation assembly (transformers, switchgear, relays), stationary or wheel-mounted, and cite NMFC 63140, Class 85 on quotes and the BOL.
2. For stationary units, bolt to a steel skid or heavy pallet, brace the frame, shield control cabinets and bushings with crates or guards, and mark lift points.
3. For wheeled units, chock and band wheels, lock axles, and cross-strap to the deck; add a “wheels locked” note on the BOL to prevent movement.
4. Provide dimensions, weight, and center of gravity; request no‑stack and consider air-ride for sensitive controls; use LTL for compact builds or flatbed for oversize.
