How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 64640 and note “KD barn litter/manure conveyors and loaders” on the BOL; rate at Class 70 for all pieces.
- Bundle long troughs, rails, or frames in rigid crates with blocking and cleats to prevent flex; cap sharp edges and exposed chain flights.
- Isolate motors, gearboxes, and guards in a low center-of-gravity crate; plug ports, protect shafts, and add foam around bearings.
- Use forklift-ready skids and banding; flag any lengths over 96 inches to manage long-freight fees and add corner boards plus stretch wrap.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable rating: a single Class 70 eliminates density disputes and reduces reclass charges.
- KD format lowers damage risk and cube, improving handling and often cutting LTL costs.
- Proper crating and bundling curb oversize surcharges and minimizes accessorials from carrier handling.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and speeds quotes, tendering, and pickups.
