How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. List NMFC 65370 and Class 85 on the BOL, and select “packages” as the packaging type for wire coop or brooder floor panels.
  2. Nest matching-size wire panels, add corrugated edge and corner protectors, then band every 12–18 inches with plastic strapping before stretch-wrapping.
  3. Place bundles on a sturdy pallet with a slip sheet and a top cap to prevent wire snagging; keep all edges inside the pallet footprint to avoid overhang fees.
  4. Use moisture barriers for wire (poly wrap or VCI paper) and label each package with piece count and “wire floor panels – nested” for quick dock ID.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Fixed Class 85 rating removes density disputes and helps prevent costly reclass charges.
  • Nesting panels cuts cube and pallet count, improving LTL rates and linehaul efficiency.
  • Non-hazardous status streamlines carrier acceptance and reduces compliance overhead.
  • Damage-resistant packaging (edge protection and banding) lowers claim risk and replacement costs.
