How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 65370 and Class 85 on the BOL, and select “packages” as the packaging type for wire coop or brooder floor panels.
- Nest matching-size wire panels, add corrugated edge and corner protectors, then band every 12–18 inches with plastic strapping before stretch-wrapping.
- Place bundles on a sturdy pallet with a slip sheet and a top cap to prevent wire snagging; keep all edges inside the pallet footprint to avoid overhang fees.
- Use moisture barriers for wire (poly wrap or VCI paper) and label each package with piece count and “wire floor panels – nested” for quick dock ID.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 85 rating removes density disputes and helps prevent costly reclass charges.
- Nesting panels cuts cube and pallet count, improving LTL rates and linehaul efficiency.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines carrier acceptance and reduces compliance overhead.
- Damage-resistant packaging (edge protection and banding) lowers claim risk and replacement costs.
