How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Bundle removable side panels, gates, and wheels separately, then band the main ramp frame to a skid with edge protectors and blocking to stop roll or tip.
- If over 8 ft long, flag any overhang on pallets and request long-freight handling; place the ramp lengthwise on the trailer to keep the center of gravity stable.
- Protect traction surfaces (grip-strut, rubber matting, treated plank) with cardboard sheathing or plywood faces to prevent gouges and slippage during LTL transfers.
- Label orientation and pinch points clearly: “This Side Up,” “Do Not Stack,” and “Team Lift.” Photograph packed units to reduce reclass or damage claims.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
