How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Book at Class 150 under NMFC 66020. On the BOL, describe as “Stalls/Stanchion Frames/Mangers, SU, boxed” or “crated,” and include accurate piece counts.
- Build rigid wood crates or heavy triple‑wall boxes with interior blocking. Band frames, pad contact points, and use edge guards to protect galvanized steel finishes.
- Target a max length under 96 in to avoid overlength fees; if longer, declare it at tender. Example: 1 crate 90×36×28 in at 420 lb, SU and crated.
- Plan farm delivery access early. Many sites are limited access and may need a liftgate; consider delivery to a dealer with a dock if the barn site lacks equipment.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 150 avoids density disputes and reclass bills, improving quote reliability and preventing inspection charges.
- Crating SU assemblies protects weldments and coatings, cutting OS&D claims and downtime for dairy or beef barn installations.
- Consolidating stalls, stanchions, and mangers in one crate reduces handling touches, helping maintain service times and minimize damage risk.
- Proactive accessorial planning for rural deliveries prevents surprise limited‑access and liftgate fees, keeping total freight costs predictable.
