How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Verify scope against NMFC Note, item 69302; ship discrete components (e.g., rails, triggers, barrels, stocks) that fit the NOI description.
- Pack strictly in boxes: new double‑wall cartons, inner trays for small pins/springs, bubble wrap for rails, and capped tubes for barrels; bag oiled parts to prevent seepage.
- State on the BOL: “Firearm Parts, NOI, in boxes — NMFC 69295, Class 100”; mark non‑hazardous and include piece count plus carton sizes/weights for smooth inspections.
- Use LTL carriers that accept firearm parts and request secure pickup/delivery when needed; do not include ammunition, propellants, or solvents in these cartons.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 eliminates density disputes, reducing reclass fees and surprise adjustments.
- Box-only standard simplifies packing workflows and cuts OS&D by containing small parts securely.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and avoids hazmat surcharges or special handling.
- Clear NOI reference (see Note, item 69302) speeds rating in TMS tools and improves quote accuracy.
