Classification Details

NMFC Description Class
75915.00 Forms or Molds, concrete construction, or cement or concrete testing, metal or wood, NOI, having a density in pounds per cubic foot of 50 or greater, see Note, item 75916 50

Notes

Note 75916: NOTE-Density must be shown by shipper on shipping orders and bills of lading at time of shipment. If density is not shown and shipment is inadvertently accepted, class will initially be assessed under the provisions of item 75925, naming 'Forms, Molds or Tubes, concrete construction...NOI.' Upon satisfactory proof of actual density, class will be adjusted accordingly.

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Confirm density is 50 pcf or higher: weigh the shipment and divide by cubic feet. Example: 4 steel wall forms on one pallet, 48x40x16 in and 980 lb → ~55 pcf = Class 50. If below 50 pcf, review NMFC Note, item 75916.
  2. Palletize rigidly: use a 4-way pallet, heavy steel banding or ratchet straps, and edge guards to protect flanges and corners. Cap protruding hardware and fill voids with blocking.
  3. Describe precisely on the BOL: “Forms or Molds, concrete construction/testing, metal or wood, NOI, ≥50 pcf – NMFC 75915, Class 50.” Include piece count, pallet count, and exact weight.
  4. Plan handling: mark center of gravity on tall or asymmetrical forms, ensure fork openings are clear, and request liftgate or appointment if no dock is available at pickup or delivery.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Leverage density-driven Class 50 to access competitive LTL rates for compact, heavy forms—especially steel sets and reusable test molds.
  • Lower reclass and rebill risk by documenting density and the correct NMFC item, improving quote accuracy and minimizing unexpected charges.
  • Claim reduction through robust palletization and edge protection, keeping precision surfaces and flanges job‑ready on arrival.
  • Faster tendering and simpler paperwork since the item is non-hazardous, streamlining scheduling for contractors, precasters, and test labs.
