How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use sturdy wood crates with internal blocking; add moisture barriers and desiccants to protect the magnesium/steel combination from corrosion. Choose ISPM‑15 lumber for export.
- Keep alignment faces pristine: separate halves with non‑abrasive spacers or ship assembled and banded. Mark center of gravity and note if the crate is non‑stackable.
- When boxing, select triple‑wall corrugated on a skid, add corner protectors, and band through reinforced points to avoid crushing or metal‑to‑metal rubbing.
- On the BOL, state NMFC 76260, Class 100 and describe flasks, magnesium alloy with iron/steel, boxed or crated. Include piece count and exterior crate dimensions for handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing: fixed Class 100 rating means no density calculations, faster quotes, and fewer reclass disputes.
- Damage prevention saves money: proper blocking and face protection reduce claims and costly downtime on molding lines.
- Clear NMFC notation minimizes inspections and delays, improving transit reliability for time‑sensitive pour schedules.
- Reusable crating enables return loops between foundry and machine shop, cutting packaging spend over repeated moves.
