Notes
Note 76682: NOTE-Applies only on frames or trim frames for installation of sinks, lavatory basins, burner or cooking units or household appliances into cabinets, counter tops or walls, or trim frames for use as components or assemblies of household appliances.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use rigid cartons with edge guards and internal bracing to prevent bending or warping of SU (set-up) metal trim frames. Bag small fittings and mount them inside the box so they cannot roam.
- Describe the freight clearly on the BOL: “NMFC 76680 metal appliance trim frames, boxed, SU.” If installation fittings are included, reference the note under item 76682 in your description.
- Protect finishes: wrap frames with foam or paper, then fill voids so flat panels won’t flex. Example: stainless sink rim frames ship well in 200–275# test boxes with corner protection.
- Load cartons on edge or on a flat layer with dunnage and mark Do Not Crush. Avoid stacking heavy items on top; these frames are thin metal and prone to deformation.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing with a fixed Class 125 rating—no density calculation needed, which speeds up quoting and tendering.
- Lower reclass risk when cartons are used and the BOL notes SU and fittings as applicable, aligning packaging with the NMFC description.
- Fewer damage claims by using edge guards and internal restraints, saving replacement costs for kitchen OEMs, appliance service depots, and distributors.
- Simplified consolidation: multiple sink, burner, or appliance trim frame SKUs can move under the same NMFC in boxes, reducing handling touches and admin time.
