How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Calculate true density by measuring overall dimensions, including toppers, protruding controls, or cash doors, and use actual weight to determine the class within 110–250.
- Match packaging to unit type: use Package 2197 wood crates for tall uprights or glass-front claw machines, and Package 1048 reinforced cartons on pallets for countertop or small skill games.
- Stabilize moving parts: secure coin hoppers, lock casters, pad control panels, remove toppers where possible, and shield glass with rigid corner protection and foam.
- Mark freight clearly with NMFC 84180, packaging type (1048 or 2197), tip-and-tell indicators, and center-of-gravity labels to help carriers handle delicate arcade cabinetry safely.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate density inputs reduce reclass and reweigh fees, keeping coin-op shipments within the correct 110–250 class band.
- Using approved cartons or crates (1048/2197) minimizes transit damage to screens, glass, and electronics, lowering claim risk and downtime for operators.
- Non-hazardous categorization streamlines carrier selection and speeds quotes, improving lead times for arcade route installs and venue refreshes.
- Strategic disassembly to reduce cube increases density and can lower class, cutting LTL costs while maintaining protection for high-value cabinets.
