How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the product is flexible glass (not rigid panes or fiberglass) and that each unit ships in a protective box as the NMFC listing requires.
- Rate and book as Class 125 with packaging set to boxes; no density calculation is needed for this simple classification.
- Pack boxes with interleaving sheets and edge protection, fill voids to stop flexing, and palletize multiple boxes to prevent top-load crushing.
- Print NMFC 86710 on the BOL, add FRAGILE labels, and request no top stacking; example: boxed flexible glass rolls for electronics or solar laminates.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing: a single Class 125 rating removes density disputes and minimizes costly reclass fees.
- Broader carrier acceptance with standard boxed packaging, enabling faster quotes and more competitive LTL options.
- Lower claim risk when boxed with edge guards and interleaves, reducing replacement costs and service disruptions.
- Straightforward auditing and EDI setup by using a fixed NMFC number and class for consistent billing.
